About
Hidden away in the pretty village of Stourton Caundle in the Blackmore Vale, The Trooper Inn is a traditional pub dating from the 17th century – yet with a modern feel.
Off the beaten track, on a quiet village lane, The Trooper Inn is a well kept secret in the heart of the north Dorset countryside – with real ales, good food and great atmosphere!
Visitors will find our pub friendly, welcoming and cosy – home from home.
Check out our secluded C.S. Hideaway campsite. And our luxury bell-tents at Starlight Glamping. All within a short walk from The Trooper Inn!
“What a beautiful pub set in a lovely village. The food is delicious and well presented, landlords are very welcoming and friendly and the whole atmosphere of the pub is very friendly and even dog friendly too. Would 100% recommend visiting this lovely pub.” J. Glanville. April 2024.

In the heart of undiscovered Dorset!
There is a sense of timelessness, surrounded by nature, with the ancient Dorset coastline an hour’s drive away.
Stile Trail
A two mile loop has been designed to incorporate nine stiles. These stiles have been ‘adopted’ by local businesses, charities, organisations or artists to re-design, develop or enhance. The route starts and finishes at The Trooper Inn...
Abundant Wildlife
We are close to areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Special Scientific Interest. Otters have been spotted in the village and, in the Spring, nightingales are close by. In summertime, our swallows and martins are a delight to watch while sitting outside with a pint.
Exploring on Holiday
We are ideally situated for a day out by car to the Jurassic Coast, with dramatic scenery and highly acclaimed beaches. We're in the midst of 'Hardy Country' and Thomas Hardy's birthplace is near the county town of Dorchester. There is plenty to explore by foot and bicycle too!
